The Department, at undergraduate level, runs two programs leading to the award of Bachelor of Science honors degrees in Physics, B.Sc (Hon) Physics and Physics with Electronics, B.Sc. (Hon) Physics with Electronics. At postgraduate level the Department offers Master of Science (M.Sc), Master of Philosophy (M.Phil) and Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D) in Physics, Electronics, Nuclear Physics, and Geophysics degrees. The Department was established in 1976 when the Faculty of Science was created. At its inception, the Department started a degree program in physics (B.Sc. in Physics). The B.Sc. in Electronics program was later introduced in the 2004/2005 academic session that was renamed as B.Sc. in Physics with Electronics in 2016. Studying physics offers students a fundamental understanding of the way the universe works, brings them to the forefront of technology and provides them with the opportunity to be versatile in every field of human endeavor.
