Admission Information

Admission Requirements:

Candidates can be admitted into any of the three degree programmes in the Department of Pure and Industrial Chemistry by one of the following three ways:

  1. The Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME)
  2. Direct Entry
  3. Inter-University Transfer

 

  1. The Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME)

The minimum academic requirement for admission in to Level 100 through UTME is Five O/Level credits (SSCE/GCE/NECO) in English, Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry and Biology, obtained in not more than two (2) sittings. In addition, an acceptable score in the Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) with relevant subject combination is required.

 

  1. Direct Entry Mode

Candidates seeking a Direct Entry admission in to 200 level must possess one of the following requirements:

  1. Minimum of five subjects passed at credit level in not more than two (2) sittings with at least TWO ‘A’ level and THREE others which must be credit at ‘O’ level. (No subject should be counted at both ordinary and advanced level).
  2. IJMB credits in Chemistry, Physics and Mathematics and ‘O’ Level credits or equivalent in five (5) related subjects including Mathematics and English.
  3. Pass in two (2) major subjects in the NCE with ‘O’ Level credits or equivalent in five (5) related subjects including Mathematics and English.
  4. A Diploma (at least Lower Credit) in Industrial Chemistry of Bayero University or any other recognized institution (at least Upper Credit) and ‘O’ Level credits or equivalent in five (5) related subjects including Mathematics and English.

Please note that item (c) and (d) are applicable to candidates seeking admission in to B.Sc Chemistry and B.Sc Industrial Chemistry only.

  1. Inter-University Transfer

Students seeking transfer from another university to any of the B.Sc. programmes of the Department of Pure and Industrial Chemistry, should have their transcripts assessed by the University Academic Office.  Students can transfer into 200-Level courses provided they have the relevant qualifications. Universities are to certify that students meet the minimum requirements for the Inter-University Transfer.
